Day Seven: From Sea Level to 10,000 ft.

Haleakala was really fun. It took us about an hour to get to the national park booth to pay our ten dollars. Then it wasup to the summit of this dormant volcano. There were strange plants and strong winds. At the top it was 56 degrees.

You can't tell from these pictures, but these plants were bright silver! Strange! Beautiful flowers on them though!

On the way back down the volcano, we stopped at a local restaurant for some lunch. The rest of our afternoon/evening was really special...laundry at our hotel! Ha! Josh just left to go to Pita Paradise to pick up our dinner. It is almost 9:00 here.

Different Topic:

I wanted to share some pics of birds I have seen on Maui so far. Most of the pics are from my bird app or Google images. Aloha!

- Red capped cardinal: I saw this bird for the first time this morning and took this shot. Looked like some kind of cardinal. I looked it up and it is known as a red capped cardinal, but is actually from the tanager family. Beautiful!

Myna bird: all over the place, fantastic musical vocalizations in the afternoons on the palm tree outside our room/balcony. When they fly, their wings are black and white. Very pretty.

Nene: Hawaiian duck that lives on the volcanic crater. We saw two on the side of the road today.

- Black-necked Stilt: Saw this guy on the golf course near our hotel!

Frigate bird: Hundreds at Molokini when we were snorkeling.

- House sparrow: very bold and everywhere just like in MA

Cattle Egret: hang out mostly on the golf course, but most everywhere walking on the side of the road, etc.

House Finch: Don't see these guys much in MA. Looks just like a house sparrow, but with the bright red color. So cute.

...and a buttload of chickens!!
